Soon new ErP regulations will change the way we heat our homes

This brief guide tells you what you need to know about the new regulations and how they will affect you

What are the regulations all about?

On September 26, 2015, new EU regulations impacting heating and hot water appliances will come into force. Know as the ErP (Energy Related Products) Directive they specify minimum energy efficiency and emissions standards for products and systems. After their introduction non-compliant appliances and systems will be progressively phased out.

What products are affected?

Boilers, combination boilers and central heating pumps; water heaters, domestic hot water pumps and hot water tanks.

What else is new?

From September 2015 heating and hot water related products will display an energy label. Just like the labels you are familiar with from domestic appliances such as washing machines and fridges, these classify devices according to efficiency bands.

Is the best energy label always the right choice for me?

The labelling has been specifically designed to help you make an informed choice when deciding on new heating and hot water solutions for your home. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that the best energy label does not necessarily always represent the best solution for you. As well as providing you with a fully compliant solution, your Saunier Duval installer can advise you on all your options.

What is the most important change affecting me?

One important result of the changes is that non-condensing boilers will be phased out after the regulations come into force. On some multiple occupancy dwellings however it will still be permissible to replace and old non-condensing boiler with a new one.
